After successfully completing the evaluation process with the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), Argentina’s National Comission for Evaluation and Accreditation (CONEAU) has gained international recognition as an accrediting agency for medical programs.
With this achievement, the Argentine organization joins the global list of agencies that hold WFME Recognition Status. This designation signals to the medical education community that programs accredited by CONEAU meet international quality assessment standards. Additionally, it enables graduates of these accredited programs to pursue medical practice in countries where such recognition is required—most notably in the United States, where the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates mandates it for physicians seeking professional licensure.
As part of WFME’s Medical Accreditation Agency Recognition Program, CONEAU underwent a rigorous evaluation process, which included an on-site review by a team of international experts. These experts assessed CONEAU’s compliance with global standards and best practices in medical education accreditation. WFME recognition confirms that the programs accredited by CONEAU adhere to high-quality and internationally accepted educational standards.
Achieving WFME recognition marks a significant milestone in Argentina’s higher education quality assurance efforts. It strengthens accreditation policies and underscores CONEAU’s commitment, along with that of accredited programs, to continuous quality improvement.
Established in 1972 by the World Medical Association (WMA) and the World Health Organization (WHO), along with six regional medical associations, WFME seeks to enhance the quality of medical education worldwide through its global accreditation program for basic medical education.
